Don't Expect Ads in Meta AI in 2025

Mark Zuckerberg made it very clear in his Q4 2024 earnings conference call. Meta isn't likely to start monetizing its AI it's consumer AI features this year.

He did leave a little window open, but my bet is Threads monetization will take the spotlight and Meta will instead spend this year continuing to tinker with the features and surfaces where users can access and engage with AI.

Here’s what Zuck said about Meta AI monetization at the end of the call:

Last year was sort of the introduction and starting to get it to be used. This year my kind of expectation and hope is that we will be at a sufficient scale and have sufficient kind of flywheel of people using it and improvement from that that this will have a durable advantage. But that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be a major contributor to the business this year. ... The actual business opportunity for Meta AI and AI Studio and business agents and people interacting with these AIs remains outside of ‘25 for the most part.
